Edinburgh v Glasgow</div>

Edinburgh welcome back Ross Ford, Gavin Kerr, Ross Rennie and John Houston for the visit of Glasgow to Murrayfield.

Houston replaces injured winger Mark Robertson, while full-back Chris Paterson still has a rib problem.

Glasgow captain Alastair Kellock is back and hooker Dougie Hall is reinstated after concussion.

Centre Graeme Morrison has recovered from a knee injury and, with Lome Fa'atau suffering a fractured shinbone, Hefin O'Hare moves to the right wing.

Thom Evans lines up on the left wing for the visitors, while prop Ed Kalman is given the nod ahead of Moray Low.

For the home side, Hugo Southwell continues to deputise for Paterson, as Houston and Kerr both make just their second starts of the season.

Glasgow sit third in the Magners League table, just six points behind leaders Munster.

Edinburgh trail in seventh place after seven matches but are only four points behind their Scottish rivals.

The match also serves as the first leg of the 1872 Challenge Cup, which is played for between the sides each year.

"Edinburgh are a quality team with a lot of heads-up rugby players," said Warriors head coach Sean Lineen, who will be defending the trophy.

"The Boxing Day game is going to be very exciting and full of movement."

A large crowd is expected at the home of Scottish rugby and Edinburgh skipper Mike Blair is looking forward to the occasion.

"Everyone is excited about the prospect of playing in front of a record crowd for an Edinburgh game," said the Scotland scrum-half.

"Derbies always create a special atmosphere and this match should prove to be a memorable event; the perfect way to finish 2008.

"Obviously last season we didn't manage to win the 1872 Cup, so we will be determined to bring the trophy back to Edinburgh this time around."

Edinburgh's Geoff Cross will face a late fitness test on an ankle knock to determine whether or not he will be named amongst the replacements.

Edinburgh: Hugo Southwell, John Houston, Ben Cairns, Nick De Luca, Simon Webster, Phil Godman, Mike Blair (capt), Allan Jacobsen, Ross Ford, Gavin Kerr, Craig Hamilton, Jim Hamilton, Scott Newlands, Ross Rennie, Allister Hogg.
Replacements: Andrew Kelly, Geoff Cross/Kyle Traynor, Matt Mustchin, Alan MacDonald, Greig Laidlaw, David Blair, Jim Thompson.

Glasgow Warriors: Bernardo Stortoni, Hefin O'Hare, Max Evans, Graeme Morrison, Thom Evans, Dan Parks, Colin Gregor, Justin Va'a, Dougie Hall, Ed Kalman, Tim Barker, Alastair Kellock (capt), Kelly Brown, John Barclay, Johnnie Beattie.
Replacements: Fergus Thomson, Moray Low, Dan Turner, Richie Vernon, Sam Pinder, Andrew Henderson, Ruaridh Jackson.

Wow Edinburgh is leading 29 - 6 after 70 mins, thought it would be a closer game then this

Not the only one, from the bits I saw I was again impressed with Blair, I just hope that he's not the Lion certainty to get injured before we get to South Africa, there's always someone I just hope it's not him.

Ref seemed a bit clueless especially when it came to the scrum, although Gregor Townsend was certainly quick to offer his pearls of wisdom being the obvious front row expert that he is.

Just back from the game. Really impressed by how we played tonight. Fast, dynamic and dominant. PLayed some good open rugby with good offloading, Glasgow were just not at the races - though I did have a wee laugh at Glasgow fans cheering Parks being subbed, he was totally rubbish tonight. Southwell played well, as did Godman, Blair, Cairns and De luca. Our pack was good too, not afriad to get involved with the running game and we snuffed out Glasgows so called 'superior' back row. All round, an excellent performance.

As for the referee and Lineen's little mind games. Well, Lineen just looks like a *** now having talked up the referee all week in the hope of getting him on the Glasgow side and making Edinburgh players look like cheats. We were far more disiplined than the Scum from the West.

Bring on the 2nd of Jan.

Also, Edinburgh set a new record in terms of crowds with this game at 12,534. Average gate is now at 6,064 after the first six games of this Season's Magners League which is an increase of 4,000 when compared like for like with the same stage last year. Gentlemen, there are now more Edinburgh fans attending their home games than Newcastle fans attending theirs!

The SRU's ticket redemption scheme is definitely galvansing gates at Edinburgh and Glasgow and one thing this year's 1872 Cup games are proving is that the attendences are there at least in the Scottish lowlands.

Heres to a bumper gate at Firhill!

Kicking and screaming, Scottish rugby's maybe finally dragging itself out of that quagmire.

Just imagine what'll happen to their attendances if Scotland win at Twickenham on 21/3. And right now, that is a very reasonable proposition.

I'd wager that if Scotland win at Twickenham, Edinburghs attendences would increase from 6,064 to 6,065!!!

Edit: Now Edinburgh Rugby need to find a dump of a Scottish Premiership Footy ground. God knows there are plenty out there in the East Lothian area...

So, that's overtaking Saracens then...
