The following is a true story: So last week I ordered a new rugby shirt (the Blue St. Helens kit) for £20. Bargain.
However, it's still not turned up despite the despatch note being emailed to me last friday and Sports Direct helping themselves to £23 of my hard earned. This of course meant I had to call them up and find out where it is.
40 minutes of phone time later and I eventually spoke to someone who wasn't in the slightest bit helpful at Sports Direct customer services...
"Maybe it was held up because of the snow"
"No, DHL have collected it"
"It's been despatched"
"You'll have to speak to DHL"
"We don't have a carriage reference"
"No, we're not allowed to give you their phone number"
<_<
So, more internet hunting and searching later and eventually contact is made with a Northampton depot.
"Hello DHL Northampton"
"Hello, I'd like an update on the status of a package which I was due to receive over a week ago please"
"Do you have a reference number"
"No, they wouldn't give me one. I have got a name and address of the recipient though"
"Sorry, we can't give you any information with just that information"
"So what exactly do you need to deliver to me and my address my package???"
"We need our consignment number!"
"How am I supposed to give you a consignment number if I am not given any information about the package that you're supposed to be delivering?"
"I can't give out any information unless you have our consignment number"
"What about if I give you the name of the company who dispatched the package?"
"Do you have a company reference number?"
Alas to say this went on for a while.
As it transpired, I needed the other DHL Northampton depot (it's always the bloody other depot, innit?). Eventually (about 20 minutes later) I managed to prize the precious reference number out of her also.
Upon calling the other depot:
"Hello DHL Northampton" (Why do both depots answer the phone with the same message?)
"Hello, I'd like to chase up a delivery I've been waiting on for the past week"
"Do you have the consignment number?"
*Give the newly acquired number*
"Yes sir, we attempted to deliver that on the 29th at 07.05am"
"No you didn't"
"According to our records sir that is the time we called and nobody was in"
"I was in at 07.05am on Monday, I don't leave for work until 20 past!"
"Was a delivery card not left for you when you got home?"
"No, nothing"
"Is your address *an address*?"
"No!"
"Is your contact number *mobile phone number*?"
"No!"
"Oh, that's why it's not been delivered yet sir!"
"I tell you what, why don't I come to collect it myself?"
"That's a good idea sir, we are open until 8pm"
Courier delivery service, my arse!
