Christophe Dominici

Growing up Dominici was really the first player I saw who screamed French flair and whenever I hear people use that term he will always be the first person I think of.
R.I.P to one of the great European wingers.

Yep, very sad indeed. Suicide as well by the looks of it. RIP. There was an Australian lock who also committed suicide IIRC. Be interestimg to understand the cause of this. Whether it is not being able to cope post elite rugby life. There must be better support for this.

He will be remembered for that try in 1999 that sunk the All Blacks. Sad loss.

"Earlier this year Dominici was heavily involved in a bid by a consortium from the United Arab Emirates to take over the financially troubled Béziers rugby club in the south of France.

The bid was halted by the sport's financial regulator and Dominici was said by friends to have taken the failure very badly."

Do you think it might have something to do with long term CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) problems from a past head injury suffered on the pitch? Remember Junior Seau, a former linebacker in the NFL who killed himself after suffering from CTE. Players in both rugby and American football take a lot of shots to head during a career. In a 2017 study of 202 former NFL players, 111 of them were found to have chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

May Christophe Dominici rest in peace.

Don't know. Would be wrong to speculate without an autopsy.

But always when someone kills themselves the question is why and how s/he got to the point when they could not take anymore.

The article Gavin posted says in Dominici's autobiography that he was abused as a child and that he suffered severe bouts of depression.

He will be remembered as an exciting player who epitomized the French style of playing the game.
Incredibly sad if he did take his own life.
RIP.

Terrible news. Fantastic player, awful way to go. RIP.

RIP!

In high school our team had a move named after him where our winger would do the same kind of chip and run like he did.

This is very sad.
