Seeing the way Russia finished the REC and with Timisoara having Shennan injured, Rose pregnant and others leaving to join CSM I am concerned for Timisoara here. Especially as they weren't having a great season anyway.

Very solid info as usual, Croket, good job!

Bruce, I find it funny that you think the Russians and not Timisoara will have an advantage after the last round of the REC. It's obviously the other way around, the Romanian team should have a big morale advantage after winning the REC, trashing Russia at home and beating Georgia. Even the pregnant Rose was useful in Sochi. :)

However, this is probably the only advantage Timisoara has, they have lost key players and seem to be in terrible form. The Russians have abused the rules by signing 3 international players for just these two games. Krasny Yar are favourites but anything can happen at this level.

Thanks mate ;)

Apikotoa signed for the whole season, but that's true for the two georgians. IMO, it's not ethic but they can answer that Timisoara will play with Seniloli, Doyle and Stewart who weren't in the team during Pool games and they arrive for the play off, like Lomidze, Pruidze and Apikotoa. To me, it's raises the level of these two clubs so I'm happy about that :)

Krasny Yar looks favorites, because they prepare the game since weeks. Timisoara looks in poor form. But on the paper, Timisoara looks stronger. I'd say Krasny Yar 55% to 45% on the two legs.

I thought Russia played some very good quality running rugby in the last two weekends, possibly the best in the whole tournament. Whereas if they had maintained their very poor form from the first three rounds I would have had very low expectations for Krasny Yar here. Romanias victories in the tournament were more about blood and guts rather than flowing rugby.

If Timisoara keep this within 7 points I'll be the first to admit I underestimated them. I think they could have done with playing in Superliga last weekend as preparation given the winter break.

Will we see Popa play do you think? I find it very puzzling and unpredictable how he is selected then rested. Him and Umaga in the centres with Fercu behind them would be a very good combination for this level.

Krasny Yar by 12.

If Apikotoa signed for the whole season, that's ok. The two Georgians joining for just a few weeks is an obvious exploit but the people who made the rules are to blame.

The Russian national team has no choice but to try and play fast flowing rugby since their backs are too weak to allow any other tactic. It sometimes works but usually backfires. I don't think national team results are relevant anyway, I'm sure that Krasny Yar would crush the Russian national team if a fantasy direct match was somehow possible.

I don't think Popa will play, the club coach doesn't trust him. I expect the Umaga-Manumua partnership predicted by Croket at centre. Some of the other good youngsters of Timisoara (Simionescu, Iftimiciuc, etc.) are away with Romania U20.

Given Timisoara's awful form and lack of preparation, I think their chances are 30% at best. Timisoara have lost their last 8 matches in a row! Some of the defeats have been absolutely shameful, like losing at home against CSM Bucharest. I agree they sould have played in the league last weekend, to get a morale win against one of the weaker clubs and some crucial match practice.

Here are the lineups:

Krasny Yar
1. Fukofuka - 2. B. Tsnobiladze - 3. Bitiev, 4. Archippus - 5. Lomidze 6. Gresev - 7. Gotovtsev - 8. Prepeliţă 9. Jagudin - 10. Ryabov 11. Galinovsky - 12. Malaguradze - Pruidze 13. - 14. Keller, 15 - Artemiev (captain).

This doesn't appear to be on rugby Tv Ro. Any word where it is showing? And is the location GMT/UTC+3?

It will be on a Russian TV station named Матч! Игра, no idea if we can find any streams for it. Apparently they didn't allow rugbytv.ro to show it. The match starts at 14.00 Romanian time.

Thanks AMZ. Bit of a tricky feed to get past the ads. I went to the original feed at

http://livesport.pw//MatchIgra.html

And clicked on the "play" icon at the very bottom left. I'll be supporting Timisoara as I don't think two Siberian sides in the tournament is the best combination for European rugby.

Georgian rugby facebook is livestreaming too.

I don't understand how you can punch twice right in front of the referee and not even get a yellow card. Pretty poor match so far, Timisoara was slightly better than the hosts.

Great, the Russians got away with punching twice, Timisoara gets a yellow for a marginal no-arms tackle.

Krasny Yar - Timisoara 12-17 FT

The Russians got a lot of hype before the match but were unable to score a single try despite playing more than 30 minutes with an extra man. The referee was an absolute clown. Overall, a close-fought encounter, qualification is still open, anything can happen in the second match but Timisoara should now be the favourite.

Second half was probably the best i personally have seen with Timisoara this season. Snubbing out Krasny Yar's attacks and taking a couple of decent tries from running rugby (the second set up by a bizarre miss-kick by Fercu). Didn't see what the second yellow card was for but thought the first and third were fair. The neutral venue won't have helped KY but they will need to improve substantially to even stand a chance in the return leg.
