Japan's mission is to finish 3rd by beating Tonga and Canada.
Do you think that that is possible?

It will be difficult current form, Canada have nine days to recover from the France game and Tonga will be pushing everything into winning what is almost like a home game for them. But Japan could win both games or it could lose both and go 0-4.

Of course they can Canada, Japan, and Tonga are all pretty close in ability, and coach Kirwan has given Japan it's best chance possible to beat Tonga by resting most of his top players in the last game against the All Blacks

From the games I have watched, I want to give a slight advantage to Canada for a third place finish. They already have the Tonga game behind them, and time to prepare for Japan.

Would be an interesting finish if Tonga beat Japan and Japan beat Canada (God forbid). It would all come down to point differential and John Kirwan would look pretty stupid with his B team selections then.

Apparently the answer is .... NO!!!

Canada is obviously now it the box seat for third place, with 4 points and two games in hand (Japan and New Zealand)

Tonga could still qualify for the quarter finals, they are currently on 5 points, but if the All Blacks beat France, and Tonga beat France with a bonus point, and both deny France any losing bonus points, and the differential? is good enough ...

... I guess they could displace All Blacks as well ... neither scenario is likely huh

There's still a good chance that third will be determined on bonus points ... if Japan get up and beat Canada
