The Blues have added former All Blacks winger Jeff Wilson to their coaching team ahead of the 2012 Super Rugby season.

Jeff Wilson was a fantastic player perhaps my favourite AB of all time, I hope he can bring the same kind of success and effort to the coaching arena.

Wilson was certainly one of my favorite players too. Back when he was playing it was actually enjoyable watching Otago play rugby ;)

He has been assistant coach for the North Harbour ITM Cup team for a couple of years now. North Harbour have been pretty poor, but I don't think you can really blame Wilson for this. Personally I think he is much better suited to the position of skills coach (the position he now has at the Blues) rather than a head coach/assistant coach role.

wasn't he some sort of youth development manager with otago/highlanders before heading to North Harbour?

he seems to be doing it the right way, he retired from playing quite young so he's given himself time to learn

Now you mention it, I do remember him having such a role. A quick google search found that his official position was rugby development coordinator.

I remember seeing that when I looked up Wilson's stats some time ago but didn't know he was at North Harbour, perhaps he can build on his coaching experience in this skills role and then move up the ranks again, sometimes it's difficult for players to jump straight into a head/assistant coach role.
