Barbarians have this morning announced that Sergio Parisse, Martin Castrogiovanni, Jaque Fourie, Imanol Harinordoquy and Kahn Fotauli'i will be in the squad to face the Lions on June 1 in Hong Kong.

Not bad.

5 quality players hope then can get more and make for a good match.

The French based players such as Parisse (Stade) and Imanol (BiarritZ) obviously accepted that their teams will not make the play offs then as Final on same day!!

Mind you gives the latter something to play for I suppose and maybe jerk him back to form!!

It's kind of silly that the Lions play this match tbh... It's not a serious match as to play the test side, but there's a midweek game only four days later, with a long trip in between, so it may be a bit too much for the midweek side...
And all this to be played in a half empty stadium... even the Argentina "test" in 2005 made more sense!

Hope some kiwis get in on the action to be honest.

I'm on a streak of writing stuff that make only half-sense. Thought the first test was the week after.

I'd watch it if only to see what Jaque Fourie is up to; I'm still hoping he'll come back to the WP/Stormers. The rest are also proven quality. If these 5 are in some sort of form and manage to find each other on the field you're potentially looking at a very exciting team!

Servat out of retirement with Brits on the bench? Fouie du Preez to back up Fotoali'i? The possibilities!

I don't think it will be half empty at all tbh, Hong Kong has a very large expat base, majority british, who won't miss the opportunity. Along with that I know quite a few people will head up from Singapore and sounding countries with large expat populations, to watch this game rather then go all the way down to Aus.

I guess a few Japan-based players could be involved. It would be fun o see something like:

1. Aled de Malmanche
2. Schalk Brits
3. Martin Castrogiovanni
4. Danie Rossouw
5. Chris Jack
6. Jerome Kaino
7. Imanol Harinordoquy
8. Sergio Parisse
9. Fourie du Preez
10.
11. Shane Williams
12.
13. Jacques Fourie
14. Rico Gear
15. Mils Muliaina

I'd also like to see how Japan #8 Kikutani and the winger Onozawa do with tier I teammates and opposition. Fotuali'i, Alex Tuilagi on the bench, maybe Isaia Toeava involved somewhere...

Also, Servat has been playing some matches for Toulouse, and as they're likely to be playing at least the week before that, I don't think it would be possible.

Loving the look of the line-up so far, and I agree with the above comments; it'd be great to see Japan based players in the mix for the Baa Baas game.

Haven't see Kaino or Toeava play for a while, and there are plenty of my other old favourites floating around in Japan right now!

New kit for the two summer games only.

My Spies on HK telll me that The sevens teams out there for next week end were allocated juniors to go and assist in training on Sunday................there were some 9000 (yes nine thousand) kids involved!! I have no doub that the stadium will be filled to capacity..............

Nick Evans, Tindall (player/coach) and Ghiraldini added in.
Going to be a quality side!

Tindall looks a bit out of his depth alongside the calibre of players called up for this.

This could be a tricky opener for the Lions. They have been rusty in their opening fixture last few tours (notably drawing to a weakened Argentina side in 2005), and now they're up against a team with players like Parisse, Fotuali'i, Evans and Fourie all of whom will be better than whoever the Lions have as their opposite numbers. That 8-9-10 trio the Baabaas have got would walk into the Lions side for sure.

Reported in the Georgian press that Gorgodze is to join up the team provided Montpellier don't make the Top 14 final.

Apparently more are to be announced this week, wonder if a few Lions who have missed out are going to get the call?

Ha the Barbarians side has me more excited than Lions squad. I wonder will they target some Celtic Nations players who have missed out on Lions. Add in possibly guys like ROG D'Arcy (guys who don't have much left)
