Round three kicks off with Otago taking on North Harbour at the house of pain. Both teams will be smarting from loses in round two and will be out to right the ship in week three. The home team will be desparate after two narrow loses while Harbour will be trying to regroup after a shock lose to the Makos last weekend. Home town team to take a tight one as not entirely sure about Harbour’s ability to travel.
Southland who seem to be playing about everything in the deep south thus far this year host feeling improvers in 2009 Manawatu. Southland are out of the blocks fast and confidence must be high in the Stags, while the Poo are vastly improved and no longer easy beats. Giving this one to the home team as well though I thnk we’ll see a wider margain than the opening match.
The mighty Canterbury fresh from dealing with Auckland, actually not a bad match from the “A†team there, finally get a home game and will be looking for full points against Waikato. Playing in Christchurch isn’t every team’s dream destination and Mooloo will be hoping to get out with a point or something. The Crushers to stroll this encounter.
Northland will be hoping to join the growing list of teams having dealt to Auckland this year, and given home ground advantage should be able to lay claim to that come Sunday. The only way is up really for Auckland, unless the NZRU want to fulfill the dreams of the rest of New Zealand and relegate the “A†team to division two for 2010. What dreams may come folks.
Taranaki will fancy their chances against Hawke's Bay coming off a lose to Wellington. Unfortunately for the Naki the Magpies will come out breathing fire and wanting full points from this one. If it’s a dry ground expect an open running game, if wet the Magpie forward unit will grind up the home team. Full points quota to the Bay from here.
Match of the round will see the undefeated Bay of Plenty go up against the undefeated Wellington. Hori BOP haven’t faced one of the big guns this year and the Lions may prove to have too much gas for them out wide. Expect one hell of a game in the first half with Wellington finishing stronger in the second half. Bonus point win to the visitors.
In the final match of the round the Makos should have way too much for the Steelers down south. Tasman to win fairly readily over Counties-Manukau.
