got the game on direct tv but the broadcast was in whellch.pretty funny.maybe get the english version this week.
Heh. I had the same (DirecTV) language problem, but posted it in the Australia/Wales thread. I wasn't sure if it was Welsh, or Afrikaans. It sure wasn't English.
Here in the States our rugby coverage leaves much to be desired. Over the past ten years I've felt pretty much like a drug addict trying to find a fix in the middle of a Mormon social. First I had Fox (Fox Sports World) but they gradually reduced their rugby coverage in favor of football. I had Setanta sports for a few years and they offered decent rugby coverage, but then they pulled out of the US, and Fox took over again (Fox Soccer Plus). Fox focuses mostly on football (soccer), but they toss us a rugby bone every now and then, just to keep us paying for their package. No southern hemi coverage, no 6 Nations. Now they're airing rugby league (which is okay, just not my favorite style of play), and American club coverage. Not to be too harsh on the American teams, buuuut...man, some of those guys really need to get into shape. BBC-America does air about 5 or 6 Six Nations matches (never the ones I really want to see, of course!), and DirecTV now airs - for free - Super Rugby and currently some of the spring tour.
Problem is, the matches on DirecTV are only aired once - live - and that's in the middle of the night. So I set up to record, but sometimes I can't pre-program to record (some glitch with my DVR or DTV), so I have to sit up until 3:30 am to manually start the record. Yeah, my problem - and not really a big deal since I can be a bit of a night owl. But when I do record a match and finally have a chance to sit down and watch it, I really want it to be in English. This isn't the first match aired in the wrong language, but in the past they've always caught it and switched audio feed. But this time they didn't, and it did take something away from the game.

So is rugby in decline in the states (not that its ever been big), surely the grid iron massive must appreciate the brutality of the game?
Quite the opposite, on both counts.
Interest in rugby is on the rise in the US. Back when I first discovered the game ten years ago, no one knew what the hell rugby was. Americans called it 'smear-the-...well, let's just say it's not an appropriate name to repeat. I felt like the only fan in the States. Eventually I found a local club and was able to watch a few matches, but they didn't get much support. Fastforward to today - there was just a big college rugby 7s championship tournament in Philadelphia last weekend that received national coverage (I believe), club teams are on the increase, and there's even a local youth rugby team where I live, which isn't a hugely populated area, so that's something.
However, I find it difficult to convert gridiron fans to the game. Their biggest complaint? The lack of standard plays. American foootball fans have grown accustomeed to their roles as 'armchair quarterbacks', sitting in front of the tv calling the plays, and as such they can't seem to get their minds around the 'think on your feet' style of play that is rugby. Sure, there are some set plays, but we all know that rugby is a very unpredictable game, changing in an instant. And Americans seem to prefer the predictable.
That all said, with rugby's re-introduction into the Olympics coming up, I'm under the impression that there's a push to familiarize Americans with the game a bit more, and over the past couple of years I have noticed interest increasing. Rugby isn't a household word yet, but at least most people now know what it is and don't look at you as if you have two heads when the sport comes up in conversation. They do, however, raise a curious brow when you mention rucking and hookers in the same sentence.

And it featured in an episode of Friends once if I remember rightly.
Anywho, glad its on the rise and if there is ABSOLUTELY no coverage of a big international test that you really wanted to watch there is always (dare I say it) torrentz .
Believe it or not, but it was that Friends ep where I first really heard about rugby. It wasn't until a couple years later that I actually saw a game played, and from then on I was hooked (wrote about it in my intro thread somewhere around these parts).
I haven't watched rugby on-line yet. Since I pay for a 'rugby' channel already, I hate spending more for a single match than I pay for an entire month. And I'm afraid of catching something from torrentz (or a similar service) - I understand they can be virus-heavy.
Is there a good, reliable on-line service on which to watch rugby? If I can get better match coverage I'd drop Fox in an instant and pay instead for what I really want to see. (I have done half-hearted searches, but nothing serious since I get at least some coverage, even if it's not the best at times.)

Must be annoying paying for a rugby channel and them not broadcasting many of the top games
