Lions loose forward Josh Strauss could be on his way to the seven-time Super Rugby champion Crusaders for next year's tournament, according to the EWN Twitter page.

How odd...

With McCaw, Todd, Read and two Whitelocks, I don't think he'll get ANY game time...

Yep, it would be a very strange move if it is true, but I doubt there is any truth to the rumour. As you mentioned the Crusaders already have 5 good loose-forwards already signed for next season, and if they are to add a 6th they aren't exactly short of options (Joe Wheeler, who has been with the side for a few year and also covers lock, or Jordan Taufua, who is an outstanding prospect at number 8 come to mind). If Strauss was to sign for an overseas franchise he would be far better off heading to Australia, where there are several franchises that could definitely do with his services (though the Blues could do with a good number 8 too...).

It was yesterday confirmed on Twitter by Josh Struass and the GLRU that this was just big sensation story with no merits whatsoever. He said however that he is looking at options to play Super Rugby Next year...

Yeah but when media asked for confirmation both Lions and Strauss avoid the question.

doesn't make sense, the highlanders however would be a different story.

Josh Strauss was on Ballz Radio on Friday. It's a local Sports Radio channel where he said that he hasn't been in contact with any Super Rugby franchise for possible signing for next year. He then said that he will have a meeting with the GLRU in weeks to come on the possibility for playing for other franchises next year as his contract doesn't allow him to do that at the moment like Elton Jantjies' contract does.

Josh said that the NZ media tried to contact him on the matter, but he said he didn't want to talk to them because they started the rumour in the first place.

Really? I haven't seen it reported by any New Zealand media - it seems strange to me that they would start the rumour then not report it! While it is possible they may have just been trolling the South African News media (just for Lolz) I find that highly unlikely, as the majority of New Zealand media people don't have the intellect to do anything that entertaining ;)

Lol, well that's how I understood it, but he said some strange things in that interview, maybe he was concussed and didn't know who talked about him or from which country.

I initially thought it was News24.co.za that started the rumour as that is where I read it first. but then about 20 minutes later, he made the tweet, the GLRU sent a statement out and even Supersport said it was a hoax. And Supersport and News24 are media partners. So I don't know who said what or who started the rumour, but well done, they got our attention

I read that Jamie Joseph is interested in recruiting an overseas player as a replacement for Haskell. Perhaps they've just mixed up the Crusaders and the Highlanders!

Yeah, Scotland have really done themselves up, not having any real connection to the borders. They lacked the crowds, but that was where the players used to be developed from.
Should be interesting to see the Scottish lineups in a few years. It will be 'six degrees of Scotland' for player qualification. I was at Glasgow airport once and I am not Phil Godman or Dan Parks, can I play stand-off?

This would be a fantastic signing for the Highlanders, Manu has run himself into the ground (to his eternal credit, but not necassarily to his team's advantage) for the last two years. Has Strauss got any history playing blindside or (ideally) lock?
