Adriaan Strauss to sign with Bulls

Poor Cheetahs. First Goosen to RM92 and now Strauss to the Bulls on top of Philip van der Walt to France and last year the loss of Piet van Zyl to the Bulls and Rob Ebersohn to Montpellier, Juan Smith to Toulon... what am I forgetting?

At this rate they wont get off the bottom anytime soon.

Willie le Roux should get off that sinking ship and get back to where he started his professional carreer... the Stormers!!! (well, not the Stormers per se but within our catchment area)

EDIT; we really should try to get out of Super rugby and see if we can't join Europe. With our setup the way it is we need the moneys. SARU should actually take full ownership and run things like NZRU (though I don't trust them) for the benefit of the test team or we should put the unions up for sale and follow the club model - while allowing the creation of new clubs and a promo-relegation system. This inbetween stance we have is not working.

Duane Vermeulen to the Stormers...

lol...

There is something brewing at the Cheetahs. Especially after the last board meeting, where they voted that Harold Verster had way too much power and decided to seperate the entities that forms the Cheetahs.

I don't know what's happening but I expect this upcoming transfer window will have some surprizes.

Say what you want about Verster (knew his son quite well; had an air-conditioning business in partnership with Jean de Villiers here in the Cape and I did some of their technical layouts for them- but it folded quite some time ago; too high a spec and costs for the Western Cape market) but he got the Cheetahs to the play-offs last year on something akin to a shoe-string budget considering rugby is now fully a global open market pro setup.

Just like a SA institution to **** things around just as it seems to be coming together... bloody politics and power plays.

I am actually in admiration of mr. Verster. He is one of the few guys that doesn't take crap from anyone and looks after his staff. But the Griffons union are the ones now throwing spanners into the works.

I hate politics with an absolute passion. In the absence of any actual intellegence and integirty of elected SARU and Provincial Union officials I'd much rather a club approach to the sport in SA with owners who are able to own a club for a reason rather than the pandering officials running/ruining the show.

A 'benevolent dictatorship' like NZ rugby has with an able dictator would be perfect if your priority lies with the test team but the chances of those chips falling into place in SA is less than slim.

at least strauss is going to another SA team and not going off to france where he would go backwards as a player

yeah, but, he's a nice bloke. He doesn't want to go abroad, as he loves his life in SA. I know one of his very close friends, and we were on a hunting trip this past week together. Adriaan called him on Sunday morning saying that he's thinking of moving back to Pretoria to be closer to his wife's parents and more of his friends.

True and he'll help keep our SR teams competitive. Just last year we were the best performing conference, this year stone cold last and even the Rebels touring SA we'll still end behind the Aussie conference which IMO is just plain simple unacceptable. The Aussies manage to retain their better players by and large but we are heamorhaging (could never spell this damn word but you get what I am trying to spell) quality players. This is at least one small victory. Between Strauss and Visagie the Bulls will be fine at hooker. I wonder who the Cheetahs are going to promote or if maybe they'll look at bringing in someone from Europe seeing as Strauss's salary should be freeing up some cash I'd wager. Chiliboy, Brits or Burden? Probably not.

what I don't get is that SA brings in all the money through television for sanzar, would not then there teams be the wealthiest thus higher salaries for the south African players?
does South Africa's political problems force them overseas i.e. qoutas, crime and the such?

Big loss for the Cheetahs but they always manage to find new talent.

Sheesh, Hein! That was a great joke, Draggs.

Back on topic; this is the thing I admire about the Bulls' management. They've identified that depth at hooker and leadership is a current issue for them and BAM! World's 2nd best hooker and a good lead-from-the-front leader, thank you very much. Why can't the Stormers... nah, not even gonna finish; you know the question and we all know the answer already..

And what about Cheetahs??! Poor them

It's nice to hear that there are still players who love their country and want to defend their colors on the field

Looks like Trevor Nyakane might also be going to the Stormers
