Didn't know he had Brazilian heritage, would be quite interesting seeing him running out in 7's! Was a very tidy RL winger for St Helens from what I remember, not seen too much of him recently. I'm sure the Brazilian 7's team wouldn't mind having a guy of his experience representing them, even if he is coming from League rather than Union.

He's spent a lot of time injured over the past three years. Additionally in Tommy Makinson and Adam Swift, Saints have produced two of British rugby league's most exciting and talented young wingers so Gardner has slowly been phased out. I like him and I hope this comes off for him.

By the way his mother is Brazilian hence the heritage.

He'd need to have a Brazilian passport since they've changed the eligibility rules to align themselves with the IOC.
Would be good for the Brazilians though.

He may already do so, I have no idea. He's on loan at Hull KR at the moment as well so I've barely seen him play in the last 12 months.

He's eligible, would he still qualify for them if he got dual nationality?

You just need a passport - so yes.

If he leaves his contract with HKR/Saints - wouldn't an SL club be able to sign him outside the cap after the olympics?
...As he would count as a union player.
