What disappoints me about Munster this year is this was to be the season where it all clicked. Key players in their prime, others like Andrew Conway, Joey Carbery, Tadhg Beirne and Chris Farrell kicking on and a quality coaching staff. It's been nowhere near good enough of late. 30somethings Keith Earls, Peter O'Mahony, CJ Stander (30 in a couple of months), Dave Kilcoyne and Conor Murray will be well past their peak if Munster have to go through another rebuild. What will the excuses be next season? This year it's that new coaches are bedding in, next year it'll be the coaches are great but players are past their best. There's the nucleus of a really good team there but there are too many passengers getting far too much game time. Without singling anyone out, look at the pack and replacement options which played yesterday. Most are are out of form while some aren't close to being good enough if you want to compete at the top of the club game. Dave Kilcoyne is the glaring exception. Youth needs to be promoted because the talent is there. There was talk during the summer that Leinster were pursuing Craig Casey hard. He's had 78 minutes for Mnster this season. Do you think Leinster would have used him so sparingly had he moved? That the Munster head coach won't pick young players enough is a legitimate gripe. Johann van Graan has undoubtedly improved the Munster squad. Has he improved their performances?
