7's Team Composition

Obviously there's 7 players on the field :D
But I was wondering what is the balance between backs and forwards ? And also what post are the numbers for.

Anybody has answers to share ?

In sevens, everyone is effectively a back. In open play there is no real distinction. The only real part where you have a difference is scrums and lineouts where there are two props, a hooker and a scrum half. There is no difference between forwards and backs other than those really.

Okay thanks. More questions: what is effectively the balance between backs and forwards (in the 15 man code). I know Fiji have locks in the team. I guess it is mainly loose forwards and backs but is there any "common rule" ?

In the 15 man version of the game there are:

8 forwards
  • loose head prop (1)
  • hooker (2)
  • tight head prop (3)
  • left lock (4)
  • right lock (5)
  • blind-side flanker (6)
  • open-side flanker (7)
  • number eight (8)
7 backs
  • scrum-half (9)
  • fly-half (10)
  • left wing (11)
  • inside centre (12)
  • outside centre (13)
  • right wing (14)
  • fullback (15)

I knew that already. Guess I miswrote my question. :wall: :D

I'll try to rephrase it: when selecting a 7's team, which player are picked. Obviously nobody picks only wingers. So you have: 3 forwards for set piece ( maybe 2 runnig locks and a loosie) a scrum half and 3 backs (center/wings). Would that be correct ?

Sounds about right, the "forwards" in sevens tend to usually be big pacy runners much like you'd find in a mobile loosy or lock. put it this way, you'd never really see an actual prop play sevens, even the winger in disguise CJ van der linde would have touble keeping up in a full on game of sevens :p

the 3 forwards, generally are the flankers or the 8 in 15...

here, in Buenos Aires, at the end of the seasson,
we play a seven tournament
in which teams are exclusively composed by props , hookers and locks

really funny :D
