Positives

Five groups are better than six.
The qualification is better for everyone including the Pro14 teams.
Having poor teams that unbalance the groups was not great in a competition where the comparison between the groups was so relevant so it's fairer that way.
Negatives

Moving the final was stupid, but it was stupid before as well, it's just slightly worse now.
Sponsorship is much worse, getting Heineken back for a fraction of what they used to play would have been embarrassing if it wasn't so funny. Remember when they were planning to have FIVE major sponsors, fast forward five years and they have two, one of which was already there.
Fan engagement and marketing is much worse, but bringing it back to free to air television was a massive step in the right direction, as was bringing back Heineken as the ***le sponsor.
I know there are problems with having a drinks company as the ***le sponsor but 'European Champions Cup' was such a boring, generic name that it actually (at least in Ireland) significantly reduced fan interest. They've fixed that now though.
Having it on two different TV station was a really, really braindead idea. They've fixed it now though and arguably improved on where it was before the change.
Money distribution is worse/better depending on who you ask but that argument has been done to death.
I think the empty stadia can at least partly be blamed on teams with less fans being more successful like Saracens and Racing. Not saying these teams have no fans but they aren't as well supported as some if the teams that were dominant 10 years ago. Overall it was definitely worse and poorly managed for the first few years but they've got their act together recently. I think Irish fans just need to accept that it's not really different, I know that I had a lot more negatives than positives but as I said a lot of them have been fixed. The old competition was far from perfect itself.
