Yep. Cheapening the international game ...

I've nothing against Leinster signing Lowe - it's the project player bit I detest.

Hate the rule, not anyone taking advantage of it!

Class signing, ROL will be a 13 so!

Lowe's a good signing. Unlikely to ever play for Ireland, but it's how Leinster can justify the signing after having an NIQ in the same position.

Says the team that just capped Ben Te'o.

How's he a project player? His Mom's English!

He'll be 28-30 by the time he qualifies behind established internationals in Byrne, Sweetnam, Kelleher, Stockdale, O'Loughlan and Lyttle. (give or take) Its getting an extra NIQ in before the rule change!

The subject is devaluing of international caps. Ahh his mother's English? He also would take an international cap for anyone who would take him, he's already said New Zealand was his first choice, but not Samoa though (who he's already represented in League), for success reasons of course. It's Peter Borlase/Mike Bent levels of farcical. If the Project player system is bad, shopping and choosing between international teams for ease of caps is as bad.

lol at trying to compare this to T'eo.

Lololololololololololol.

England have used the rules for sure but you can't accuse us of signing project players.

The thing is now Ireland aren't signing with the 2 intent of targetting for Ireland. Now its a case of sign for immediate impactbwith province and if in e yrars your good enough and want to play for Ireland we will consider you.

I agree and I have no doubt Te'o is very much a mercenary. However, I still feel that there is a significant difference to capping a player who qualifies through a parent such as Te'o or Harrison and specifically signing a player with no ties to Ireland/Scotland/Wales/whoever with the intent to give them a passport and a place in your test squad.

Guys like R. Flutey is what I don't want to see. But hey Lowe sounds Irish so it's ok everyone

In general I don't mind guys with parents playing for a team, but specifically Te'o yes I do. Haven't pulled my punches on what I think of him already. How many project players have actually played for Ireland with anything close to regularity? Payne, Stander, maybe one cap Quinn Roux makes a squad when we're really stuck. I don't like project players, and hope the system changes, but the myth that we use them in abundance is complete nonsense. Unless Lowe is some complete wonderchild we haven't seen the likes of before, he won't be playing for Ireland at the age he'll qualify. The chances are that unless he slipped through the cracks in a serious way for New Zealand now, he won't be good enough for us.

Well I think this project player thing is nonsense and instead of helping Ireland it's cheapening the jersey.

People are quick to call England out on it but make excuses for Ireland. Some consistency please, folks.
