The boys were asleep. If Ireland had played the way they SHOULD play, ie most of the 2nd half, I think the result would've been a lot more one sided. We are much better than this, and frankly I'm just a bit shocked that after such a strong Autumn we opened so poorly. So poorly. You can argue the lack of Sexton and Payne but tbh I think Jackson is a very apt 2nd choice... Payne was missed alright but realistically he is not our long term option for centre.
Best's throwing can be so dodgy at times - why wasn't Cronin on the bench? Man I am very disappointed. It was a good Scottish performance, and I am happy for them. Would much rather lose to them than England or Wales ;) Plus they needed and deserved a win. But at the same time I don't feel Ireland lost because Scotland were so good. Perhaps this is taking a bit of credit away from Scotland, but our first half performance was a disgrace. It's unfortunate for Ringrose to have such a start like this but I know in time he will grow. I'm bummed. The championship is still up for grabs and if England's performance yesterday was anything to go by I think we have a realistic chance of winning. However not winning a slam always bursts the bubble a little bit. Of course I'd be delighted to win the Championship, but, the slam... :( Sure that's sport for ya I suppose. All in all I hope that this really is a new Scotland, and not just Scotland putting away an under-performing side before reverting back to their old ways. It's great for the tournament and I'm personally delighted for Scotland. They have always been my 2nd team to root for. If they make it in the top 3 this year I would be so happy for them! Not much else to say apart from sigh some more and look at Wales in 2013 for inspiration. Though that I said I put a few cheeky quid on Italy to win today, that would blow this tournament wide open! Just watching the highlights now - does anyone else feel embarrassed when Ireland are caught out at wide so easily? RWC 2015, Oz last year, Scotland now... I can't help but cringe a little bit, our wingers are ****e defensively (bar Trimble)
