Wouldn't be surprised if you do. Cheetahs are consistently the team we struggle to perform against away from home. Think we have lost away to the Cheetahs in the past two years.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.

I didn't watch any of Saturday's matches as I was away in the bushveld. But yeah, for some strange reason the Stormers always struggle in Bloemfontein. I did however manage to watch the Cheetahs against the Jaguares, and if they want to give the stormers a go, they will need to defend better, as Kolbe and the Stormers backs could do the same to the Cheetahs as what the Jaguares did to them.

Its not just in Super Rugby. In the Currie Cup we struggle more with the Cheetahs than what one would expect looking at other results. In fact, the 2nd last time I was at Newlands was a home loss to the Cheetahs.

That said I expect a win for us unless the Cheetahs get those early breaks en masse again. I don't know that we will be able to ctach up quite as well as the Jaguars did on the weekend. I think the Cheetahs have just lost too much ITO player quality and our bench should count for a win.

Think you do a grand job TRF Heinekin but wondered why you do separate threads each week for each game whereas guys for the Aviva, Pro12 and Top14 leagues just do the one a week for them all?

We've always done it this way for the Super Rugby games like the Heineken Cup games as they are played by different countries teams. The Currie Cup and the ITM cup we do the same as the Aviva and the Top 14 as they're national tournaments.

This is a new Stormers set-up all together, I couldn't give a rats ass about the past, much like the Blues this season.
They have the forward dominance to really hurt the Cheetahs and backs that can exploit them badly.
Unless the Cheetahs step up their game it can't not see the Stormers take this

Ja, Gena. I want to see a few more games before I buy into the 'new Stormers outfit' thing. That said I can imagine the Stormers winning by 20. Again though I can also see a very tight game with it coming down to a kick. I don't see anything in between though.

OK...thanks for the info and, as said, your efforts!

Just read an article highlighting that the Cheetahs have downed the Stormers three straight times now in SR at home. We have to buck that trend NOW!

I've had the idea that the Cheetahs are our bogey side much like the Griquas (in CC) and Lions (back when it would've been considered and upset) are the Sharks' but I didn't realize we havn't won in Bloem in SR three straight times. In a row. Straight. Not a single win in between!..

Where was I? Oh, yeah. Considering the (relative) sucess of the Stormers and weakness (apart from 2013?) of the Cheetahs in SR. But all things change. These next three games will determine the Stormers' season IMO; Cheetahs (how we handle a bana skin), Sharks (biggest danger in SA conferences- we'll have to see how they go agaist the Jaguars though) and Brumbies (team to beat?- difficult to say so early).

Yea, I remember in 2014 when we lost 35-22 away and then four weeks later we won 33-0. Then last year it was 25-17 loss and then a 42-12 last year. It seems we consistently underestimate them or don't pitch up and then come to the party in the next match and don't give them a chance. Hopefully meeting so early this year and all the talk of them being our bogey team prevents us of making the same mistake.

The attendance is better than the last game at the Free State Stadium. I suppose a lot of Stormers supporters, right?

Etzebeth is just such a beast! Really encouraged by his form so far this year.

Edit; Springbok 4 and 5 showing their class. With de Jager on the bench we have serious quality at the lock position.

Cheetahs lineout is simply unbelievable. That might have very well cost them the game.

We lost too many lineouts and a stupid yellow card to get. I think we did play well but too many errors/penalties. Great game :)

Cheetahs are no easy-beats. They could well have been 2/2 rather than 0/2 at this point but for a bit of good luck. How good were Etzebeth and PSdT for the 2nd week running? We looked clueless on attack though. Hands letting us down but a lot of credit to the Cheetahs defense spearheaded by Venter (what a player!).

Its early days but Venter is putting his hand up for Bok 13 IMO with Serfontein looking off it and Kriel not playing. So too both Cheetahs props.

My current Bok wishlist;

1 Kitshoff
2 Du Plessis
3 Malherbe
4 Etzebeth
5 Du Toit
6 Coetzee
7 ? we can't really make a mistake though; Louw, Alberts and Burger the encumbants but I'd put a waiger on Whiteley, Kriel and any one of the Du Preez bro's, probably Jean-Luc a fraction ahead of Daniel.
8 Vermeulen

9 Reinach
10 Pollard

11 Senatla
12 De Allende
13 Venter
14 Combrinck
15 Le Roux

16 Strauss
17 Nyakane
18 Van Dyk
19 De Jager
20 ?
21 De Klerk / Hougaard
22 Lambie
23 Kriel

This should probably go in the Bok watch thread though. I'll link it.

Switch Kitshoff with Nyakane, Du Plessis with Bongi and bring in Mapoe at 13 and at 14 have Skosan. Otherwise that team is way too white and won't get SARU and rest of country support. 1 out of 15 in the starting line up is back to 1995 levels and isn't ok.

On the actual team, I don't really mind not seeing Bismarck, that discipline has always been an issue. We have loads of talent in the lock position at the moment and all of them are young. How has Vermuelen been playing in Toulon? Because as you pointed out, we don't have a shortage of loosies and it may be a good time to move away from some of our older incumbents. I would switch Reinach for Faf and would consider switching out one of Pollard and Lambie for Jantjies for now since the other two are both injured and so far Jantjies is looking fairly decent and playing a running style of rugby which would be great to see at Bok level. I would rather have Combrinck as a back up to Le Roux in case he shows signs of having a misfire game.

But all this is just fun early round speculation for now :)
