Great to see these cheating buggers dealt to away from home.....

That lions number 8 was outstanding!

Ruan Combrinck as well, really impressive, surely he will get a Spring Bok call up.

How good was Jaco Kriel??

I hope he gets some playing time this year for the Boks!

He was ridiculously good but the thing is the Boks wont select him as he's playing that NZ style open game which wont suit you guys (the rest of the forward pack) especially in a world cup year...

Are you talking about the Hurricanes or the Chiefs? :D

Warren Whiteley is a gun, wouldn't be stupid not to have him in the bokke's. not only a good player, also a good captain.

The Chiefs have been cheating, their penalty count is through the roof (that's only what they get caught doing as well), they just kill the play stop tries illegally, hence why they have (had) one of the best defensive records in SR.

Well he went on the EOYT last year with the Boks.

But I do think that HM might pick him, along with Whiteley. Kriel's amount of tackles he puts in every week, alone should warrant his selection. I don't think any flanker in the SA teams performed better than him this year. I would love to see the stats.

Now this was immensely enjoyable, apart form the hangover the next day
Well done Lions, pity your season will end next week against the Stormers

The main reason imo why they are getting pinged is Bundee Aki is not there anymore he was cheating like a friggin mad ******* at the end of last season and NEVER got pinged for it. It was like he'd been given a free pass to steal any ball at any time!

guys just doing a try analysis of the Combrinck try (2nd one), would you think it fair to say the Lions have "an exciting but little/relatively unknown back line"?

I think the Lions team as a whole is pretty much unknown outside of SA.

Only Warren Whiteley and Elton Jantjies and Marnitz Boshoff are springboks in their 23-man matchday squad.

yeah, that's kind of what i was thinking, my description of them is: an exciting but relatively unknown back line marshaled by Elton Jantjies backed up by a fast dynamic ball playing pack.

Fair assesment?

The last few games, yes.

But Elton didn't start every game, neither did Faf de Klerk.

In some games the Lions started with Guy Cronje at 9 and Marnitz Boshoff at 10 and then Elton and Faf came on in the second half.

I think the group rallies behind their captain (Whiteley) and they love the new plans their coach (Johan Ackermann) brings to the party. But what made them such a potent weapon, was their pack, especially at scrum time. The Lions have now for the past 2 seasons had one of the best scrums in the tournament, and they have a very good loose forward trio.

Skosan was great last year while Mapoe, Mostert and Tecklenberg are having a great season so far. quickly making a name for themselves.

The Lions ATM are an example of how to run a Union well. They were forced into a corner having been dropped from Super Rugby in favor of the Kings and TBH it has done them well to start from scratch. If they can sort out Ellis Park (TBF it's the surrounds and not the stadium itself) they'll be in a very good place.
