Beauden Barrett to sit out the match? - you heard it here first ;)

Really so long as there are no Canes injuries I don't care too much about the result...

Would be happy if we gave most of our front-line players rests unless they are short on game-time.

I just realized I really feel sorry for Jason Woodward. Took a risk coming back here, thought he was a safe bet for the 15 jersey, not even on the bench for the last few weeks even when we've needed a goal kicker. Had a few rough games early season but would love to see the guy get another go.

Woodward broke his leg in club rugby a while back, he was ruled out for the season.

Ohh yes, that rings some bells. I don't feel quite so bad for the guy now - can't select a guy with a broken leg.

Some teams go better after a break, so sure, rest a few players. Some don't, so it's wiser to play them. I'm not sure which category this Canes team is. Give a few half a game. Either way the result is irrelevant from a Canes perspective.

Im a Hurricanes supporter in this match but im sorry that penalty try is very dubious. And a yellow!!?? REALLY?

What are the rules if Savea clearly does not have control of the ball?

It probably deserves the penalty try but a yellow aswell is just crazy.

It probably deserves the penalty try but a yellow as well is just crazy.

Its the Law...

[TEXTAREA]22.17 MISCONDUCT OR UNFAIR PLAY IN IN-GOAL
(b) Foul play by the defending team. The referee awards a penalty try if a try would probably have been scored but for foul play by the defending team.
The referee awards a penalty try if a try would probably have been scored in a better position but for foul play by the defending team.
A penalty try is awarded between the goal posts. The defending team may charge the conversion kick after a penalty try.
A player who prevents a try being scored through foul play must either be cautioned and temporarily suspended or sent off.[/TEXTAREA]

Sometimes a referee will not issue a YC where he is unable to determine for certain who the offender was or where it is clear that it was not foul play by an individual player, e.g. a collapsed scrum or maul

He might not have clearly had control of the ball, but he probably wouldn't have dropped the ball if Tom Marshall had left him alone, and that's how you're supposed to look at the situation when a player commits foul play potentially stopping a try.

We will beat this above average but ultimately toothless Chiefs team in Dunedin and then edge the Tahs in Sydney and lose to a deserving Canes team in Wellington.

Nono you play the Canes in the semi's we play the Tahs and then lose to a deserving Canes team in Wellington ;).

Best we can hope for is the Brumbies beat the Stormers, which is a strong possibility. It's a tragedy we don't get a deserved home semi final, we are easily the 2nd best team in the competition. It's so f**king stupid the whole lay out.

Chiefs have lost their mojo. two consecutive losses just before the play offs isn't the way you want to start them. I hope they can turn it around.

You won't get any argument from me or any Saffer that the tournament is fair particularly in a case like yours where the second best team is forced into a worse draw and I do feel bad for the Highlanders fans.
Unfortunately fairness is rarely the only factor considered when money and television is involved.

As for us losing to the Brumbies, I actually think we'll take them, we've yet to lose to an Aussie team this year but it's certainly a possibility. I would say we're
the favourites at least.

I really hope for this. Not that I favour the Brumbies over the Stormers (I actually much prefer the Stormers), but simply because I don't want us to have to play the Hurricanes in Wellington. They're on fire. Their backs are so good. The amount of ball they lost vs the Chiefs and still did it comfortable in the end is ridiculous..

Money should not talk when it comes to sportsmanship and integrity of the competition, it basically cripples the chances of really good teams who aren't quite the best in their conference, but are better than the other two conferences top teams chances of winning the competition or making the final. In this case, us and arguably the Chiefs. Might I add the Chiefs have been on the receiving end of many SANZAR terrible performances. This competition holds the best players in the world, yet it is so incomplete, unfinished and beta. They need to tidy it up.. even more rubbish is being added next season. This conference stuff is ********. Back to round robin and keep it simple, straight forward, the top 6 get the fair play-off rights!!!

It should be this;

1. Home SF
2. Home SF
3vs6
4vs5

(Lowest QF seed plays 1. Highest QF seed plays 2.)

Hey someone know where I can buy a Chiefs jersey with the sponsor: "AON" on the collar?

No panic required as was only a dead rubber game for the Chiefs last night having already secured a playoff spot..
..definitely missing the attacking prowess of Tim Nanai Williams last night - maybe he was being rested the way the Stormers have rested their stars...can see Damien McKenzie also being more heavily involved and starting at standoff next week which will improve things as well...workhorse Sam Cane the tackling machine was rested and will be back..

...Remember, what happened up til now all counts for nought once the playoffs start and we'll see who's saving their best for last...without Cruden t'was always gunna be an uphill battle but we made it through regardless thanks to the depth in the team and great coaching staff..

But be warned sudden death football is a whole new kettle of fish and unlike the Highlanders and Hurricanes, the Chiefs have actually been involved in a few semis over the last few years...It's what you bring from now on in that counts so better bring your A game otherwise the Mighty Chiefs will kick your butt...:p

^^ But the HL beat the Chiefs twice this year home and away. Thats a pretty big thing to overcome for any team. + the fact the HL thrashed them on the last encounter.

Im sure the Chiefs will probably put out a very good side next week though. I think the game will be won in the forwards and depending if Sopoaga can control the game or not. The Chiefs clearly have a better forward pack even though he HL pack has been playing above themselves most of the season. Should be interesting. Sopoaga really needs to stand up though, this is the true test if he's good enough for international rugby.

Im fairly happy with the draw for the HL they have every chance to meet the Hurricanes in the final which would be awesome.

Id also go as far to say getting the Chiefs first up is probably the best result and gives them a very good chance to get through to the semi's.

If the Crusaders had made the finals and the HL were facing them id give them no chance whatsover.

Why do the Tahs get a home semi (and a quarters bye) when they have less points than the Highlanders? I assume it must be a conference thing?? Just another reason for me to hate the conference system I guess...

Its kinda BS the more I think about it. If a team finishes the regular season on more points they should get some advantage going into the semi?? Surely? To me the Tahs should bypass the quarters but give up there home semi! Thats more fair to my mind.

The Highlanders have often beaten the Chiefs . That's good motivation then to reverse that trend and like I said finals footy is a whole new ballgame.. Does'nt look like the TAB has much confidence in the Highlanders of winning this year btw given the current odds....not all that much better than the Chiefs ...will be close I think..

Option 2200

Outright Winner

Selection

Odds

2 Chiefs 8.50
3 Waratahs 3.20
5 Brumbies 17.00
6 Hurricanes 2.20
8 Stormers 10.00
10 Highlanders 7.00

Yeah I dont think the Highlanders will win it but id like to see them get through to the final all the same. If they get past the Chiefs they will likely struggle pretty hard against the Tahs big forwards.
