    James Lowe to Leinster

I hate it when people talk about allowed to leave, it implies a deliberate error that's not true. Once a contract is up there's nothing a club can do but offer a new one and all clubs have financial limitations.

[2017 RBS Six Nations] Round 3: England vs Italy (26/02/2017)

I'd argue that any 8 with a sufficiently high work rate and understanding of the break down should be able to play 6 at international level. I also think genuine 6s are the position we're lightest in going forwards, and I think we're going to see two 8s as a regular thing at some point, or maybe...

[2017 RBS Six Nations] Round 3: England vs Italy (26/02/2017)

Clifford did his fair share of tackling against Wales. In attack, it looks like he's been instructed to stand wide, so it stands to reason he's not been involved so much. I'd like to see him more involved as well but I don't think its bad as it looks. Assuming Billy makes it back, its one of...

    Lions Captaincy 2017

Biggar has said he was turning to give the ball to Halfpenny when Halfpenny said he didn't fancy it so AWJ said best go in the corner. I presume that, if true, Biggar was pointing to the corner to communicate with the ref. I don't know if that stacks up with the video but then, I don't care...

    Lions Captaincy 2017

Personally I don't trust a captain that says "I don't care if you think you can get this kick, take it anyway". AWJ is completely right to go for the corner if the kickers say no. The only issue is airing the dirty laundry out in the open in a way that implies some sort of trouble beyond that...

[2017 RBS Six Nations] Round 3: England vs Italy (26/02/2017)

Enough of this - banter and debate are one thing, but just tossing personal insults and going "just kidding" are another.

[2017 RBS Six Nations] Round 3: Scotland vs Wales (25/02/2017)

Fair points. I feel a bit for Jamie Roberts, his body has taken this massive punishment and just can't keep going the same way. There's a few guys like him that should have been shuffled out earlier its true.

    England EPS 2016/17 season.

Can't see Robshaw making it when injured, can see Lawes sneaking in (we're not sending all 4 though), Daly for JJ feels likely, don't think Hask is making it with the number of 7s playing this tournament. I've got a half-feeling Te'o might go. Gatland likes a bruising centre and the cupboard...

(Very) early thoughts on the 2017 Lions

Furlong's a long way ahead of the others on carrying and I think Lee is notably the worst of them as a scrummager, although not by much.

    The Leinster thread

Yes, a back up fly-half is really a better comparable than another key veteran mentor

[2017 RBS Six Nations] Round 3: Scotland vs Wales (25/02/2017)

Which rookies should they have been picking last 6N? I know Ashley Beck isn't one of them as he was injured and I'm guessing Rory Thornton wasn't ready due to age. Parry and Davies?

(Very) early thoughts on the 2017 Lions

No successful rugby coach puts too high a price on being fair in selection and the Lions aren't for the 30-odd most in form players in the British Isles. If Gatland can't find 4 wingers who he thinks are showing the form and ability to be big parts of a NZ beating side, he might as well take...

    England EPS 2016/17 season.

Burns is capable of a consistent 80% kicking rate, played one of the best games I've seen an England FH play in recent years down in NZ, and isn't reputed to be a gigantic ****.

Werd. Hopefully people have it all out of their systems now.

I'd like to see Burns back in before Cipriani.

No lock should be first over so many loose play situations. He's an openside trapped in a lock's body, which is why I love him. We were originally talking about the Argentina tour for no locks though.

    England EPS 2016/17 season.

If you're running two flankers replacements, are you doing 6-2 or no locks? So far Jones has been about the evolution its true, but he's said the next two windows are for experimentation. Back row is a position where we badly need to experiment. I'm not saying we'll find people to replace...

[2017 RBS Six Nations] Round 3: Scotland vs Wales (25/02/2017)

Dull, does that mean you'd leave Ball in the squad? If Davies can emerge as the player his ceiling suggests, that would be huge for Wales and a real game changer. - - - Updated - - - Dull, does that mean you'd leave Ball in the squad? If Davies can emerge as the player his ceiling...

Can we say Scotland are actually back now?

I will take them seriously next 6N but, until its backed up next year, no one knows for sure.

    England EPS 2016/17 season.

Everything's a gamble in some form. What if you take Haskshaw, denying you the opportunity to try new flankers, but they don't make 2019 in good enough form and you don't have replacements?
