    Cockerill has it bang on...

...other things - complicated rules, TV overage, interminable politics etc - and a really big one is the lack of novelty, players get flogged playing* the same old time and again - Leicester v Leinster 💤 anyone? Are we as excited to see the Boks as we once were? Not really as we’ve seen most of...

    A Political Thread pt. 2

Suspect this might get a passing mention on tomorrow’s HIGNFY. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/may/02/minister-sorry-as-veterans-find-id-card-not-valid-for-english-elections

    Cockerill has it bang on...

I don’t think Cockers has said anything contentious there. The lack of jeopardy in the sense of no relegation and the ease of getting into the Champions Cup is just fact. The league is competitive which is great, but the ante’s definitely ramped up when there’s something tangible at stake...

    Premiership Rugby 23/24 - Round 16

That depends on how accurately it’s been reported against official process. Can’t claim to be an expert, so if anyone knows any better please chip in. The original citing was pretty much universally reported as the Citing Officer “deemed it to have been worthy of a red card”. That would be...

    Premiership Rugby 23/24 - Round 16

Not criticising the yellow or particularly wanting to focus on that specific incident, although it obviously prompted my question. More a general question about responsibilities of the carrier…..the current narrative’s that it’s 100% tackler’s fault.

Bizarre citing then. Had another look at Care’s yellow - the one he actually got. He’s passive, being steamed into by Lawes who’s not running fully upright and if he wasn’t leading with his head it wasn’t far off. Care was never not going to be carded, but how much responsibility lies or should...

    Premiership Rugby 23/24 - Round 16

Itoje cited after his yellow was deemed worthy of a red. Could miss rest of the season if the hearing today doesn’t go his way.

    Should substitutions be banned.

Good call. Would that be a real time 5 seconds or a “use it” 5 seconds 😀 Score from a scrum and you can almost see TMOs counting the frames to determine whether a team’s had it too long.

Amaretto with orange juice and freshly squeezed lime?? Game’s gone soft.

Well having come out and said there was no fight or violence he’s going to look a 24 carat plank if there was. The Sarries hierarchy isn’t daft. They’ll want to be pretty sure of the facts before allowing that statement to go on club social media channels.

Not good. For a guy who never used to drink he’s had a few problems since.

    Premiership Rugby 23/24 - Round 16

Enjoyed that - bit too much kicking in the first half, but properly competitive. Ewels mostly very good, T Willis less obvious than Barbeary but very effective. Coka’s aerial game is a real weakness when it ought to be a strength.

And in the 6N it was noticeable that George’s game time reduced over what we’d seen previously. Is that because they had increased faith in Dan or because George no longer has the legs / form? Possibly a bit of both but I’d say more the latter. He did 71 v Wal, 67 v Sco, but just 54 v Ire, 52...

    England 2023/24

I guess the point is that there’s a huge gap behind an ageing George if we assume that LCD struggles to regain full form. It’s not so much about who’s 7th or 8th choice, but who’s the immediate succession plan for both 2 and 16? Dan looks to be the chosen man but despite some obvious strengths...

Is that him, or is that him trying to ref how his paymasters want him to ref and worrying about how he’s going to be assessed? If you believe everything you read on here, no match has ever been reffed competently and the likes of Barnes only get grudging respect once they hit 100 tests or have...

Nice piece on Langdon in the Times today. Slightly surprised that he’s going to turn 27 over the summer though. Maybe a case of now or never for him.

Which would be just as bad. We don't want any kind of swingers. It's a no win situation - dumb to put Dickson in that position. I don’t believe any ref would try to inappropriately influence a match, but it’s needlessly opening them up to that criticism and social media vitriol. Attwell who's...

    Premiership Rugby 23/24 - Round 15

Quite. A 10 team league where 2 clubs have a combined 4 wins out of 30’s not a good look. Although above those it’s all pretty competitive.

    England 2023/24

Half back I’d go Mitchell and F Smith. While I prefer Isiekwe at lock, a BR of him, T Willis and Earl wouldn’t be too shabby. For the next couple of weeks Lawes, Ludlam and Pearson could do a job. Dombrandt, Evans and CCS would be competitive too.
