What's your squad look like?

I know Im super down on Farrell but when has he ever had a defining Lions match? He's only ever been in the starting 15 during the 2017 tour and even then shouldn't have

Even the England brilliant games are a handful over his career.

I bloody hate the statement test match animal as if there some kind of x factor.
Ah that's absolute crap to be honest. He's been England's best player since the 03 crop and him and Sexton as the 10 / 12 axis was clear as day the best Lions dynamic on that tour to everyone apart from Gatland for the first test.

England played a lot more intelligently from 2013 - 2020 (apart from the collective head loss in the 2015 world cup) than they have since when Farrell was in there pulling strings and before Jones tried and failed to turn then into some team trying innovative things and playing on the cutting edge.

It's a weird call up considering he's replacing Daly but it's also one that will lessen the workload for the midfield and will be a big crutch and a charming man for the Smiths to lean on as they continue to hone their game management in a tricky environmentto do so. A few players can feel hard done by but none could replace Daly's Lions experience in a squad that is quite light on it.

Wouldn't have been my pick but there's definitely more justification to it than pure nepotism.

I'll take your second point (although I do wonder if him playing IC was the best choice for the Lions) definitely not the first.

I think that's the minimum and it can be raised based on performance and tour revenue.

Presume it is pro rated, maybe somewhat in favour of the injured player who has to go home.

Yeah makes sense. So presumably Daly and Owen will split the base payment for one squad member pro rata based on time in camp with extras added when criteria is met.

Some players should be giving a refund tbf

But the thing is has he done anything in the last 4 years since that lions tour to be selected

Like everything you mentioned may be true (I disagree on some points) but what has he really done to justify select in recent times?

I think he was still having positive impact on England until the end and same with Sarries. Based on this year he shouldn't be there.

Like I don't think it's a great decision but I can see reasons beyond the family ties.

Completely disagree with this, and I was one of his biggest/only cheerleaders - he was sandbagging England at the end massively, making players around him look much worse
Maybe, I thought he was a steady head in England's RWC team.

No secret I place heightened value on playmakers managing territory very well and decision making around that, I very possibly overvalued it, but feel like he has always been a key contributor in that regard.

Probably the exact opposite for me I prefer mine to looking heads up and looking for dyanamic breaks. Something Farrell never really excelled at he was at his brest when not playing fly half but still a lot of attacks went to die with him as he was too busy managing terirtory to spot the overlap or place someone in a gap.

As Olyy said this got a lot worse in his final years for England.

I wonder how the wider squad view this. There was huge tension with the geographical 6 in 2017. I doubt we’ll ever find out but it would be interesting to get squad thoughts on the 2025 biological 1.
